We are using the power of song to connect with people with Alzheimers. Find out more about this fascinating project here…..
Everyone knows that Alzheimer sufferers find accessing memories difficult.
But how about remembering music?
Research has proven that the brain has an excellent memory for song.
So our man Mike Bettison was invited by the Alzheimer’s Society to become part of their ‘Singing for the Brain’ project which encourages dementia sufferers and their carers to enjoy a bit of a sing along.
Mike’s role is to sort out the songs, put the words into a powerpoint to project onto a screen, then lead the singing.
The fortnightly sessions see groups coming from local care homes as well as individuals. Mike chooses the songs which he accompanies with ukulele or melodeon.
