Think autumn, think conkers right? That’s what we thought! So we are bringing you this fantastic event, hot off the press! Seek, Find, Speak is an outdoor response to The Lost Words, by author Robert MacFarlane and illustrator Jackie Morris who gathered up words from the natural world, missed out of the Oxford Junior Dictionary and put them into an award-winning picture book.
We are so excited to bring you this unique event. Seek, Find, Speak, is a project linked to the award-winning children’s picture book The Lost Words, by Robert MacFarlane and illustrated by Jackie Morris. The book, which features poems, and illustrations of flowers, plants and creatures found in nature, was written in response to publication of the new edition of the Oxford Junior Dictionary back in 2007. Lexicographers at the time, took the decision to introduce new words such as “broadband” while others, describing the natural world disappeared.
Creator/Director of Seek, Find, Speak, Collette Murray is now ensuring MacFarlane’s work reaches an even wider audience. She has created an immersive outdoor theatre piece for youngsters, which was showcased at the newly established Timber Festival in the national forest in early July. The event set a colourful nature trail of spells, images and poems for children and their parents to follow and was a huge success. Collette will now adapt the show for our audiences in North Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire. More about the organisation can be found here https://www.seekfindspeak.com/. In the meantime, watch this space for dates and venues!
