A house frequented by famous children’s author Beatrix Potter, played host to another creative genius this week when North Indian dance guru Pratap Pawar showed off his skills in an exclusive concert.
A specially invited audience of over 30 people watched in amazement as guru Pawar, who has performed before John F Kennedy and the Queen, showed off his storytelling dance skills at a ‘Mehfil’ – the northern Indian name for a ‘gathering to entertain’.
The event, held at Battlebarrow House in Cumbria, was organised as part of Dance Across the North, a rural touring scheme which aims to spread a love of dance throughout the north of England.
Led by leading British dance organisation Balbir Singh Dance Company, the concert was hailed a huge success captivating its audience who described it as a ‘fantastic event’.
Beatrix Potter – famous for the children’s classic Peter Rabbit, was a regular visitor to Battlebarrow House after marrying into the Heelis family.
The magic of her visits remains to this day with dancers and the Guru transfixed by some of her most famous and insightful qoutes which were on display at the house.
Here are two qoutes from the famous author which inspired the dance team the most:
“We cannot stay home all our lives, we must present ourselves to the world and we must look upon it as an adventure” Beatrix Potter
“Thank God I have the seeing eye, that is to say, as I lie in bed I can walk step by step on the fells and rough land seeing every stone and flower and patch of bog and cotton pass where my old legs will never take me again” – Beatrix Potter
