opening new doors to the arts

Autumn shows may be over but some of the work done by Blaize and our commissioned artists lasts way beyond a season. Read on to find out about the wonderful workshops undertaken by children’s performer David Gibb in North Lincolnshire.

Scunthorpe kids write song good enough to knock your socks off!

What a blast!

As well as putting on events throughout North Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire, Blaize Arts also takes the opportunity to run workshops wherever possible.

During the autumn season, our Live Lincs’ scheme ran workshops for little ones in Scunthorpe area.

We went along to Oasis Henderson School to find out how they were getting on.

Children’s performer David Gibb (Climb That Tree, Post A Letter) went down a storm with primary school pupils when he encouraged them to write a song together.

A quick warm up had the children jumping up and down, baking imaginary cakes, whizzing them up in a mixture and singing and clapping along. A short while later, they were shouting out ideas for their own song. These ranged from the world’s biggest ice-cream to a calm wide sea, a spider buying a super car, a waterfall, Old Town Road and stinky socks!

The winner was Stinky Socks which resulted in a hilarious new song about why those socks were so stinky and what happened when Mum tried to remove them from the singer’s feet. The children helped with the lyrics while songwriter David meshed the chords and melody together into a bluesy rock song good enough to knock your socks off! (even if they do stink).

The children were so well behaved and engaged, laughing, dancing and singing and loved every minute of the workshop. Teachers too, seemed enthralled!

Check out our video below and see for yourself. David went on to perform a number of fantastic children’s shows in North Lincolnshire.
