Chris Newman & Maire Ni Chathasaigh

November 14, 2014 @ 7:30 PM

The celebrated virtuoso partnership of Máire Ní Chathasaigh, “the doyenne of Irish harpers” (SCOTLAND ON SUNDAY) and Chris Newman, “one of the UK’s most staggering and influential acoustic guitarists” (fROOTS), has presented its unique musical vision in twenty-two countries on five continents – at venues from tiny historic churches and splendid palaces in Kyoto and Istanbul, to London’s Barbican, Sydney’s Town Hall and Cologne’s Philharmonie.

Chris and Máire’s performances are rooted but eclectic, emotional but adventurous: a breathtaking blend of traditional Irish music, hot jazz, bluegrass and baroque, coupled with evocative songs, striking new compositions and Chris’s delightfully subversive wit. This much-loved duo from the folk Premier League has that rare ability to combine true virtuosity with spellbinding entertainment – ingredients for an unmissable evening.

As part of their Winter 2014 Tour they will be offering a special Christmas show entitled Celtic Christmas Strings as well as their virtuosic blend of traditional Irish and Scottish music, hot jazz, bluegrass and baroque. The show will highlight their unique take on well-loved seasonal tunes.
